What is PR Act 60 Chapter 2 (formerly Act 22)?

The enactment of PR Act 60 Chapter 2 (formerly Act 22) was established to promote the relocation of high net worth individuals, retirees and investors from the mainland and other foreign countries to Puerto Rico, by providing total tax exemption on all passive income realized or accrued after such individuals become bona-fide residents of the island. The tax benefits of PR Act 60 Chapter 2 (formerly Act 22) shall only be made available to those non-resident American citizens and non-resident aliens who become bona-fide residents of Puerto Rico on or before December 31, 2035.

The amazing tax benefits provided under PR Act 60 Chapter 2 (formerly Act 22) are the following:

  • A 100% tax exemption from Puerto Rico income taxes on all dividends;
  • An impressive 100% tax exemption from Puerto Rico income taxes on all interest;
  • An astonishing 100% tax exemption from Puerto Rico income taxes on all short-term and long-term capital gains accrued after the individual becomes a bona-fide resident of Puerto Rico; and
  • 0% federal taxes on Puerto Rico source income.
